RECEPIENT UPDATES

Alexa Kamm, a 2020 graduate of Rockport High School, was selected last spring by our Decision Board Committee to be the first ever recipient of the Wave Foundation Scholarship.  She was selected on the basis of her exemplary character, leadership within her community, extensive volunteer work and her belief that her small acts of kindness positively impact those around her. She also has the intention to pursue a career serving others by working in the medical field. She naturally embodies our core ideals of empathy, integrity, generosity and service.

Alexa is currently a freshman at the University of Virginia, studying biology.

"In the future, I hope to practice medicine and help people for as long as I am able. With COVID-19 affecting my freshman year of college, I have spent most of my first year studying and adapting to Southern culture. I hope to intern in a research laboratory this summer."

We are so pleased to congratulate her on a successful first semester in college, earning A's in all of her rigorous courses. Keep making us proud Alexa!

FUNDRAISING

We were able to reach our funding goals for the 2020 scholarship award due to the very successful Cape Ann Art Auction in the summer of 2019. It is due to the incredible generosity of several local artists and the outpour of support from our local community that our first fundraising event was able to be such a success. Our work would simply be impossible without the instrumental reinforcement and aid we have received from our network of supporting individuals and organizations.

This past year, however, funding efforts have been severely impeded by the effects of COVID 19. Though we will indeed be continuing our work and awarding a scholarship this spring, it will not be in the full amount of $1,000, as our ability to receive funding was greatly disrupted in 2020.  We have all been hurt by this this past year's pandemic but look forward to a hopeful and transformative 2021. We hope to have the opportunity to show another auction this summer and continue raising funds to support our local students.

OUR DECISION BOARD COMITTEE

Last year, in preparation for the donation of the first Wave Foundation Scholarship, we developed a team of four community members to participate on the Decision Board Committee. The members of this committee were called to join due to their high level of involvement within the local community, their deep, genuine concern for the youth population and commitment to helping and leading those individuals by any means possible, as well as each of their standout characters. The members of this board are role model citizens who do their best to lead their lives in such a way that effects consistent and lasting positive impact. They live each day practicing small acts of kindness and embodying the ideals we look to inspire in our communities and empower in our youth population. Each of these members participates on a volunteer basis and we at the Wave Foundation are so eternally grateful for their service on this board.
